Maria Sharapova swapped the tennis court for the red carpet this year during the Fashion Trust US Awards 2023, serving an ace in a beautiful black ensemble.
For those who are unfamiliar, this particular awards show is not only a celebration of fashion, but it also serves as a unique spotlight on the work of emerging young designers.
The Fashion Trust US is a non-profit and has only been around since 2022, with one clear aim in mind – to discover and fund the next wave of young designers in the US. The show hands out six awards in total across the categories: Ready-to-Wear, Jewellery, Inclusivity, Sustainability, Graduate Award, and Google Creativity Award.
This year, the annual awards show was held on March 21 at the Goya Studios in Los Angeles and Maria Sharapova was among the famous faces to grace the red carpet.
Many will be more familiar with Maria from her time with a tennis racket in her hands, as the Russian star become one of the few players to achieve a career grand slam – winning all four of the majors in her time on the court.
Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008, and the French Open in both 2012 and 2014. Unfortunately, she just missed out on achieving the Golden Slam as she picked up a silver medal in the final against Serena Williams in 2012.
However, since retiring from the sport, Maria has gone on to make somewhat of a name for herself in the world of fashion.
Sharapova was attending the Fashion Trust US Awards to present the St. John Ready-to-Wear Award and she certainly dressed for the occasion with her black flared pants, black leather overcoat, and black stilettos.
This comes after Sharapova also made headlines at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party when she was seen wearing a wonderful green floor-length Versace dress. Maria completed the look with black leather gloves and black platform heels to make her look nothing short of the Statue of Liberty herself.
Maria has been spotted at numerous fashion events and awards shows since calling time on her tennis career, taking the time to showcase her style at each and every one.
At London Fashion Week in 2023, Sharapova was spotted at the Moncler Genius Fashion Show and even met up with her old tennis rival, Serena Williams.
With plenty more fashion shows to come in the next year, we can’t wait to see where Maria Sharapova pops up next and, more importantly, what she wears.
