Cryptocurrency and NFT giant Binance has announced an exclusive, multi-year partnership with football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The agreement aims to create a series of NFT collections and introduce the new internet “web3” to the Manchester United striker’s millions of fans. A first collection is expected to be launched this year and will feature designs created in collaboration with the Portuguese. The contract between the two parties runs for several years, although the exact duration has not yet been specified.
Towards a career change after his football career
Cristiano Ronaldo shared the news with his fans on his social networks by posting a video in which he proudly displays his collaboration with Binance. In a statement widely reported in the media, the Madeira native said: “My relationship with the fans is significantly important to me, and the idea of bringing unprecedented experiences and access through this NFT platform is something I wanted… I know the fans will enjoy the collection as much as I do.” At 37, the five-time golden ball winner is close to the end of his career. However, through this collaboration, he seeks to invest his image and influence in a promising sector for the years to come.
A sector prized by sportsmen and women…
Despite a significant drop in the value of 75% between February and mid-April, according to Chainalysis, the NFT market continues to attract more and more sports stars. Other athletes, such as PSG striker Neymar and tennis star Serena Williams, have already shown interest in the world of NFTs. The latter is among a select group of NFT holders with unique monkey images that sell for over $200,000 each.
