Wayne Rooney, the footballer with 120 caps and United’s all-time top scorer, recognizes the good fortune he has had on his way to success thanks to the support he has received. Through the “Wayne Rooney Foundation”, he intends to give back!
Through the “Wayne Rooney Foundation”, Wayne Rooney hoped to use his experience and status to build a lasting legacy, inspire children, and improve the lives of young people. The Foundation organizes events to raise funds to support the work of key organizations dedicated to supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people. These organizations include the NSPCC, Claire House Children’s Hospice, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and the Manchester United Foundation.
The first of these events took place in August 2016 in the form of a match between Manchester United and Wayne’s boyhood club Everton. The result was £1.6 million raised for the chosen charities! The foundation has managed to raise nearly £2.4 million in total between 2016 and 2019 (91% of which was raised in its first year). It also donated £200,000 to the We Love Manchester emergency fund, set up after the 2017 terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena.
