MICHAEL ESSIEN COMMITTED TO HIS PEOPLE

The “Michael Essien Foundation” is a community organization set up by Michael Essien for the people of his hometown Awutu Breku in the Central Region of Ghana.

The former Ghana national team player and Jose Mourinho’s first choice for the midfield position is certainly one of the most beneficent footballers in the world. The humble and generous former Chelsea man who joined the coaching staff of Danish club Nordsjælland has not forgotten his people in his homeland.

The assistant to coach Flemming Pedersen, in addition to taking part in training sessions with the players, remains very involved off the pitch with his community in his homeland: Ghana. Michael Essien’s foundation, created by the former player himself, has a five-year development plan and aims to provide the disadvantaged people of Awutu Breku with access to basic services: the distribution of basic necessities, health care, libraries, public toilets, and potable water. It also offers a program to help farmers increase their productivity, a sports day, a recreation center, and an annual women’s health training in honor of Essien’s mother.

Off the field, Essien is as enthusiastic as he ever was in the game, in training, and on the bench, and he works tirelessly to bring much-needed help to Ghana and its neighboring regions.
