The FC Barcelona captain and 2022 Golden Ball winner (for the second year running) has signed up with Iberdrola (a Spanish-based renewable electricity and gas supplier) to become an ambassador for equality in sport.
Alexia Putellas, once again named World Player of the Year 2022, the Barça attacking midfielder, is not content with her double and hopes to win a golden ball again! In the meantime, she wears the colors of Iberdrola as a sign of her commitment as an ambassador for equality in sport. This partnership highlights the important role that women also play in sports. The Barça captain said she was “very happy to be part of Iberdrola’s effort to promote equality” while considering that the level of women’s football in Spain has improved significantly in recent years. Alexia Putellas has already made history in women’s football (and despite her serious knee injury before Euro 2022), the FC Barcelona captain with two gold medals considers herself privileged.
Toward a more equal society
With this partnership with Putellas, the Spanish company is strengthening its program, which aims to empower women but also to recognize their role in society and to raise awareness on a large scale of the need to build a more equal society. The company already has 25 top female athletes in its ranks, with whom it continues to work for greater recognition of women’s sports!
