Manchester City star Jack Grealish has donated two pairs of tickets to his executive box at the Etihad Stadium to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK ahead of the World Cup.
The England international attacking midfielder, who grew up on the outskirts of Birmingham, has a long-standing and strong affinity with the charity and, in particular, with Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Indeed, the former Aston Villa captain’s younger sister Holly has cerebral palsy and was treated at the hospital. So Jack Grealish is keen to support them whenever he can. Ronald McDonald House Charities UK is an independent charity. It runs 14 houses in England, Wales, and Scotland that offer free accommodation ‘away from home.’ They enable families to stay together with their sick children in the hospital. Each home saves each family around £1,240 in accommodation costs.
Gala dinner raises over £200,000
In the final auction at the Gala Dinner in Birmingham, just before the World Cup, Jack Grealish helped the charity to raise over £200,000 on the night. Ronald McDonald House Charities UK relies solely on the generosity of supporters and fundraisers. Jack Grealish is a regular supporter of the Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, one of the largest accommodation facilities built by the charity: as well as providing 66 bedrooms, the Birmingham house also provides families with the togetherness that is so valuable when one of the children is affected by illness: cooking together, eating together, and sharing experiences.
