World champion, four-time European champion, three-time Spanish champion, the native of Lille has won everything… Raphaël Varane can add his social commitment to his list of achievements.
Raphaël Varane is the patron of Make-A-Wish France, an association whose aim is to grant the wishes of children between 2 and 18 years old. Since 2015, he has been making wishes come true for sick children. By committing himself to the association, the youngest international defender in the history of the French national team chose, at a very young age, to use his fame to help sick children. He said on joining the association: “I decided to join Make-A-Wish France with the aim of bringing happiness to children. Indeed, it is a chance for me to help them, to give them strength and joy! Mutual aid, solidarity, and sharing are values that I wish to promote.”
His involvement continued in 2018. The 2018 world champions launched an endowment fund called “Generation 2018” to support associations and projects that are close to their hearts. After “France 98” and “Generation 2018”, like their predecessors, world champions 20 years before them, the players of the French team have decided to embark on a collective adventure away from the pitch. Raphaël Varane and Les Bleus captain Hugo Lloris want to put their energy, which transcends individuality, at the service of the collective. The 23 world champions are involved in this project, which is also open to other players and athletes.
